Licensed Massage Therapist
Where and when did you graduate from massage school?
I attended the Onondaga School of Therapeutic Massage in Rochester, NY, and graduated in June of 2013. I feel very fortunate to have learned from excellent working LMTS as well as chiropractors.
What did you do before massage?
I did a good deal of retail and service industry work before finding this calling.
Why did you choose to get into massage?
I learned very early that the typical four-year (or six, or eight!) college path was not for me. Having too many choices can be as challenging as having too few; so I decided to direct my energy to massage training, something I have always been told I was good at. On the day I toured the school, the financial aid officer looked me up and down, and said “Yeah, you’re going to fit in here.” Since then I have been discovering what a unique and rewarding experience this career is.
How would you explain your approach to each client?
My general goals for every client are to facilitate postural balance, body awareness, and to educate. Poor posture and lack of body awareness are almost universal problems that many are unaware of; the nature of massage in general does a lot to assuage this. The urge to educate my clients is more a discovery I made than a conscious effort. Being a self-proclaimed nerd when it comes to the science and mechanics of massage makes it easy (and fun) for me to explain what I am doing during a session, as well as offering self-care techniques .
What are your hobbies?
I love playing music! Piano, drums, but mostly guitar and bass guitar. I enjoy movies, from indies to summer blockbusters. I also like to spend as much time as possible around trees, on my bicycle or on foot.
Tell us about your family.
I’m the youngest of 3 kids; I have two sisters who live in Los Angeles. The three of us, their husbands, my nephew, and my parents have made a tradition of meeting in LA for Thanksgiving; a little sun and surf just as winter closes on Milwaukee and my hometown of Rochester!
